Even after Reading was over and the year ended THE gig of the year has to be the Misfits of Ska tour at the Garage, and a BIG thanx to Danny who appreciated the quality of this site in providing THE ONLY review of that gig. Another MASSIVE round of credit to Sniggles Yankee Boy Presents for all the Xcellent gigs last year, especially Spankboy and Shootin' Goon, how would I have got through all my troubles if I hadn't known that Rick's were worse? ( give him a break Jo) The 2000 saw the arrival of the long awaited new [spunge] CD more about that in Rank Wag 2 the reviews of the best CD's from last year. But if you haven't got it yet go out and buy the Shootin' Goon CD Splottside Rocksteady it's tops! Oh yeah I'm warming up now!!! | |||||||||||||||||||

Bands of 2000 for me have to be Shootin' Goon and Spankboy. Shootin' Goons music will skank the world and Spankboy are the 2000 world skankers For those of you who didn't go or were more impressed by the name Rage Against the Machine, Bowling For Soup were the band of Reading 2000. The things those guys can do with a guitar pick!! And on top of that they gave away a load of t-shirts to the crowd after they played! They bounced their way through their set ( literally ) and it was the one and only time I didn't mind listening to Bryan Adams Summer of 69 as they do a crackin' good version. At The Drive In were probably the most pack that tent got at Reading, amid massive Kerrang! coverage last summer it got the interest going, and the crowd were not going to be disappointed. It was a bit heavy for me but they were good, and thousands of people can't be wrong. ( Oh I suppose they can, take Daphne and Celeste!! ) Uncle Brian eventually got to Swindon to play ( and just in time the singer has since departed ) along with support from The Spartans and Douglas. The Spartans are tops! Punk rawk like it should be. They had a good few in the crowd dancing which is good for a support band at The Vic. Douglas were different again. Not so much my kinda thing but they were enjoyable and the crowd seemed to like them. Unlce Brian play that ska/punk style, they were heading somewhere but with out the singer who knows what'll happen? Respect to Sniggles for getting that lot to The Vic eventually. DECONSTRUCTION 2000 is rumoured to be happening again, and at Three Mills Island. Lets hope they cut back on ticket numbers and get some food and toilets in!! Bands rumoured to be playing are Rancid, Blink 182 ( that's one eighty two ) and possibly the return of NOFX. Well with Glastonbury 2001 cancelled get your tickets for Reading A.S.A.P. cos all the tossers that like to ruin Glasto will be heading for the biggest rock festival of the year and Reading is a more likely contender than the Leeds site. Check out Rank Wag 2 for the CD's of 2000 that you should have bought, and if you missed any of the gigs last year then I hope you enjoyed reading about them here.
